SLS ‘Make the News’ Competition Winners Announced

30th June 2021

The SLS is delighted to announce the winners of the ‘Make the News’ Competition 2020-21.  The President of the Society, Professor Thom Brooks, said:

“We received a number of terrific pitches by early career scholars across the country and it was enormously difficult to pick only four from them. Nevertheless, the competition winners this year are:

Peter Dunne (Bristol)
Anne-Marie Greenslade (Leeds Beckett)
Caroline Henaghan (Manchester)
Eden Sarid (Essex)

A meeting is being organised for these four to make their pitches to our judging panel of Catherine Baksi (The Times & The Guardian), Joshua Rozenberg QC (BBC, Law Society Gazette) and myself. Each will get advice on how to get their pitches picked up by the news media.

I am further indebted to Dr Richard Danbury (City), who has a distinguished career in journalism as well, who gave a masterclass for applicants to this competition that was absolutely fabulous.

One of my aims this academic year was to help support our members raising profile and learning how to get their work noted on the news. I am enormously pleased at the launch of this competition and very much hope something to build on. Our members make huge contributions and I’m committed to doing what I can to give our expertise an airing. Look out for SLS members making the news in coming weeks and months!”
