Conference: Litigants in person in Northern Ireland – barriers to legal participation
Friday 14th September 2018
Ulster University School of Law, in association with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, will be launching the results of a two-year study funded by the Nuffield Foundation into the experiences of litigants in person in the civil and family courts in Northern Ireland. The research examines the barriers faced by litigants in person to their Article 6 ECHR right to a fair trial and makes recommendations related to court processes, advice and possible future steps to improve progress through the court system.
The conference features discussions with members of the Northern Ireland Judiciary and the Northern Ireland Civil Service as well as speakers addressing the perspective and learnings from the England and Wales experience.
