Conference: 70th Anniversary of the Genocide Convention

Friday 9th November 2018
University of Nottingham, University Park

As the 70th Anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide approaches, the Nottingham International Law and Security Centre is hosting its 2018 conference on the Genocide Convention.

On 9 December 1948, the Genocide Convention became the first human rights treaty to be adopted by the General Assembly. It was followed the next day by the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Seventy years on, what is the legacy and relevance of the Convention? How has the concept of genocide evolved? And what are the cultural, political and social issues relating to genocide? The theme of the conference is conceived broadly and it seeks to encourage an interdisciplinary conversation on all of these issues.

The conference is free to attend.
