Conference: Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference 2017
This year’s conference will be held from 5-8 September 2017 and registration is now open. Please book early to avail of the early bird discount which is available until July 14.
In addition to the established subject sections, ‘trial’ sessions on Conflict of Laws and Energy Law are also running this year, as there is interest in creating new sections in these two areas.
The theme of this year’s conference, The Diverse Unities of Law, is the subject of two plenaries with Lady Hale chairing the first plenary on Wednesday with Professor Ambreena Manji (Cardiff), Professor Peter Cane (ANU and Cambridge) and Associate Professor Kevin Costello (UCD) speaking.
On Thursday at 4 pm judges from each of the four jurisdictions of the United Kingdom and Ireland will participate in a panel chaired by The Hon. Mr. Justice O’Donnell (Supreme Court of Ireland). They are: The Right Hon. Lord Mance (UK Supreme Court); The Rt. Hon. Sir Declan Morgan (Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland); The Hon. Ms. Justice Iseult O’Malley (Supreme Court of Ireland); The Hon. Lady Wolffe (Senator of the College of Justice, Scotland).
The second plenary on Wednesday is on Leadership and Diversity in Law Schools with Professor Colin Scott (UCD –chairing) and Professor Toni Williams (Kent); Professor Anne Davies (Oxford); Professor Carol Tan (SOAS); and Professor Carl Stychin (City).
As usual, there was a strong response to the call for papers with the final programme reflecting the extraordinary range and rigour of scholarship among members. We are grateful to the 47 keynote speakers nominated by their peers in the 28 subject group sections.
Registration fees have been kept at the same rates as last year and payment can be in either sterling or euros.
