Conference: Same-Sex Relationships – A New Revolutionary Era and the Influence of Legal and Social Change
Monday 10th September 2018
Northumbria Law School, Faculty of Business and Law, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 8ST
At a Council of Europe level, there continues to be no right to same-sex marriage, although now all contracting states must provide some level of civil partnership or registered partnership. This one-day conference will provide a chance to examine the existing provisions for same-sex marriage, civil partnerships, and the European Court of Human Rights and European Union stances.
Doctrinal, empirical, and theoretical work will be presented to interrogate the current consensus
in Europe regarding protections and recognition for LGBTQ relationships.
This conference will provide a forum for a rigorous analysis and exploration of the necessity for
both legal and social change and inter-relationship between the two in relation to same-sex marriage.
The event is free but delegates should contact alexander.maine@northumbria.
