Conference Venue Information
The University of Southampton is host to
this year’s Society of Legal Scholars Conference,
The Human Rights Act Ten Years On. The conference
will take place on the Highfield Campus, where the
Law S chool is based, from the 13th to the 16th September
2010. Further details on the facilities being used

Registration
Registration for the conference will take place in
the Hartley Room of the Staff Social Centre (map
ref 38) with the desk being open daily from 10.30
– 18.00 on the Monday, 08.30 – 18.00 on the Tuesday
and Wednesday and then 08.30 – 13.00 on the Thursday.
The Conference Management Team will be on duty at
these times to also answer any queries about the
event or your booking.
Subject Section Meetings & Plenary Sessions
The subject section meetings will be held in Law
Building (map ref 4), The Centre for Teaching and
Learning (map ref 2) and Nuffield Theatre (map
ref 6) which are all within a two minute walk from
the Staff Social Centre (map ref 38) where the
registration, catering and exhibition are all taking
place. The main plenary sessions will be located
in the Turner Sims Building (map ref 52) which
is also just a short stroll from the Staff Social
Centre.
Publishers Exhibition
The Publishers Exhibition will be situated in the
main Garden Court area of the Staff Social Centre
(map ref 38) which is situated next to the registration
desk and catering facilities. There will be plenty
of opportunity to visit the Publisher s’ Stands
as all refreshment breaks will be served in this
area, along with the drinks receptions on the Monday & Tuesday
evening.
Refreshments and Catering
As previously mentioned the conference refreshments
will be served in the Exhibition area in Garden
Court, Staff Social Centre (map ref 38) throughout
the event, along with the drinks reception on the
Monday & Wednesday evening.
The Garden Court Restaurant which is adjacent to the Publishers Exhibition will be the main eating area during the event with lunches and the Monday & Wednesday night dinners being served here.
Breakfast will be available daily at the University Accommodation blocks at Glen Eyre which are a 10 – 15 minute walk from the Highfield Campus or alternatively if you have booked Chilworth Manor accommodation then breakfast will be available at the hotel.
The Gala Dinner and drinks reception is being held on the Tuesday evening at St Mary’s Stadium which is home to Southampton Football Club. Included in your ticket price is transport by coach from the Highfield Campus to the Stadium with the evening commencing with a drinks reception followed by a served three course dinner.
Accommodation
The accommodation for the conference is situated
on the Glen Eyre Complex just a 10 – 15 minute
walk from the Highfield Campus. I t is based in
single en suite rooms including full English breakfast
the following morning at the Halls of R esidence.
All accommodation includes tea/coffee making facilities
in the kitchen, bed linen and towels.
In addition to the accommodation at the University
we also have a limited number of rooms reserved at
Chilworth Manor which is an Edwardian Manor House
set in 12 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens.
The accommodation includes a full English breakfast
along with use of the swimming pool, steam room,
sauna, Jacuzzi and gymnasium. Please note that Chilworth
Manor is a ten minute drive from the University Campus
(traffic dependant) and you would need to arrange
your own transport to and from the venue throughout

Travel
The Society of Legal Scholars Conference
this year is being held at the University of Southampton
and will be based on the Highfield Campus. If you
