"Dear Professor Wikeley
As you may be aware, the newly constituted Joint Academic Stage Board met for the first time last week. At this meeting, the implementation of the new JASB Handbook was discussed and the Board would now like to invite comments, especially from the Associations, with a view to finalising it for use early in the new year. The following has now been placed on the Bar Standards Board website (www.barstandardsboard.org.uk) and can be found by selecting 'Education & Training' from the main menu, followed by 'Academic Stage' and 'Joint Academic Stage Board'. I would be extremely grateful if you could bring this to the attention of all SLS members.
Joint Academic Stage Board Joint Academic Stage Book The Joint Academic Stage Board (JASB) has drawn together their current guidance in the form of a Handbook for ease of reference, together with an overarching section that acts as a guide to separate appendices. Whilst the Handbook is essentially a compilation of existing documentation and guidance, the Board would like to welcome comments especially from the Associations (Conference of Heads of University Law Schools (CHULS), Association of Law Teachers (ALT) Society of Legal Scholars (SLS)) on the overall composition and format of the document. In addition, the Board would also like to invite comments on any areas of concern, ie if you think existing rules need to be amended or if there are areas where guidance is not currently published. This information will help the new Board to focus on key areas and draw up a strategic/business plan for the future. If you have any observations regarding the format of the Handbook and/or areas of concern regarding the existing rules and guidance, please forward your comments electronically or in hard copy to the Secretary to the Board Lucy Mersh by 15 January 2010. lmersh@barstandardsboard.org.uk
