The Maritime Law Section provides a forum for scholars to meet and discuss any aspect of maritime law. The section always meets at the SLS annual conference and the sessions are friendly, relaxed and interesting. The range of topics presented and discussed at recent meetings has covered areas of domestic, EU, and international law, and addressed issues in commercial/private maritime law and public maritime law.
Examples of the areas of interest include:
- marine insurance
- contracts of affreightment
- international law of the sea
- international sales transactions
- ship financing
- maritime legal history
- marine environmental law
- the work of international organisations, such as the IMO and CMI.
The section welcomes interest from anyone with an interest in maritime law and related fields, and is particularly supportive of research students and early career stage academics. Participation is also open to non-members of the SLS.
The subject section is currently suspended.
