ESRC + 3 Quota Award (PhD Studentship) in Socio-Legal Studies and/or Criminology School of Law University of Leeds

The School of Law at the University of Leeds invites applications from prospective PhD students for a full-time ESRC funded +3 Quota Award (PhD Studentship) in socio-legal studies and / or criminology commencing October 2010. Applicants are expected to have a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in any of the social sciences. Applicants must also have completed ESRC recognised research training at Masters level (or have equivalent research training experience).

ESRC studentships are open to UK and EU citizens - for information on eligibility see: www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk. Maintenance grants for studentships in 2010/11 will be in the region of £13,490 per annum, and research in certain areas may attract a supplement.

Some teaching on the postgraduate human rights course will be expected in return. See attached 'HR Peking’. ******************************************************************************* 4)The Annual Conference of the British Branch of the International Law Association will be hosted this year by Oxford Brookes University on 15th and 16th April 2010. Please note that, unusually, this year's conference is on Thursday and Friday (not Saturday). The theme for this year’s conference is compliance. The normative evolution, acceptance and development of international law continues, yet so too does the phenomenon of non-compliance. Papers are invited on the practical and theoretical issues raised by questions of compliance understood broadly, across all areas of international law.

Practitioners, academics and doctoral students are invited to submit paper proposals within the conference theme. Institutional affiliation, seniority, nationality or gender will be immaterial to the selection process. Abstracts of no more than 500 words should be submitted by Friday 12th February 2010. Submissions should include the author’s name and contact details (including email address) and be sent, preferably by email to dsedman@brookes.ac.uk, or by post to Dr Dawn Sedman, Department of Law, Headington Hill Hall, Oxford Brookes University, Oxford OX3 0BP. Applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process around 22nd February 2010. Deadline for abstracts: 16/04/2010. ****************************************************************************** 6) The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) COBRA 2010 research conference will be hosted by Dauphine Universite in Paris on 2nd and 3rd September 2010. Submission of Abstracts and Papers Those wishing to contribute to the symposium are first invited to submit an abstract of their paper using the electronic template. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and should summarise the purpose, content and conclusions of the paper. They should also identify the paper’s title and include between 3 and 6 keywords for indexing purposes.
