The Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference
Durham University
10 September 2007 to 13 September 2007
The broad theme of this year's conference is Diversity and Difference. The three plenary sessions open with an address by the Rt Hon Dame Sian Elias, Chief Justice of New Zealand, followed by a Panel of distinguished experts discussing Equality Duties. In the third plenary the Rt Hon The Baroness Hale will talk about her judicial and extra-judicial writings on law and legal education in a conversation chaired by Professor Rosemary Hunter and with contributions from some of the subject sections.
Durham is an exceptional city full of architectural gems built around the winding River Wear. Accommodation, breakfast and lunches are at Collingwood College, as are the publishers' exhibitions. Plenary sessions and subject section meetings all take place on the University Science Site. The first evening reception, including an introductory reception for early career researchers, is at the Castle (University College) which is situated on the Cathedral peninsula. The Annual Dinner on 12th September is in Beamish Hall. The Tuesday evening includes a welcome reception for distinguished guests and past and future Presidents of the Society, the announcement of the winners of the 2007 Birks prizes, and a ceilidh.
The Law Department conference team, Roger Masterman, Erika Rackley and I very much look forward to seeing you in Durham.
Celia Wells.
